Coming down to earth?

I think I might be starting to come back down to earth now.... but that's debateable! I've started writing my full review/experience up for my web site, and I'm going through the photos. I'm finding which ones I want proper photo prints of (I'm not sure if I should use Boots or Kodak), and I've tracked down a vinyl copy of the Rio album at a local second-hand record shop - it's a snip at £3.99 so I'm picking it up in a few mins.... not that I've got a working stylus in my record player at the mo, but I've always wanted a copy of the LP..... I was going to buy the CD, but I'm waiting for the Box Set of DD, Rio & SATRT with the mini album covers which comes out at the end of next month!

I'm still carrying my war injury with pride! One of the guys at work who also went to the gig popped in to see my fave photo today - he was impressed with the photo, and with how close I was to the action!! :-) What can I say??? I just wanna be there again!!! I can't wait til the DVD of tonight and tomorrow's gigs is released!! If hubby doesn't object I intend to have a bit of a DD night tonight - although I'm sure he will mind!! :-( I'd better buy him the Housemartins CD/DVD today to soften him up!!!

A survivor's tale

What can I say??? It was the best night of my life - ever.... it was better than I ever anticipated.... I screamed like a teenager..... I picked up a 'war wound' while protecting my space.... and I was right at the centre of the stage 8 rows back, moving forward to 6 rows back by the last half of the concert.

I'm in love all over again. I always thought Simon was gorgeous, but now I know that he's divine!! Yasmin really is a very, very, lucky woman! I never knew I could scream so loud!! My voice is still suffering at the moment... I took over 100 photos (but some aren't that good unless you view them as thumbnails as I was shaking with excitement!)... I'm hooked.... I have to see them play live again, and I have to meet them... thoughts are still somewhat incoherent at the moment, and it's hard to concentrate on work, all I want to do is sit and listen to DD and look at my photos of Simon....

Suffice to say that I was on cloud nine, and still am!! There were some great moments too... like when Simon started to introduce 'Whatever Happens Tomorrow' only to have Andy pop over and whisper in his ear that they'd changed the set list and next was 'A View to a Kill' - a classic moment! And I'm so glad I was there to see it! The Sheffield set list is on the official web site

I still feel numb, I'm not really sure that I was there. I keep thinking it was all a dream..... I'd expected to be right near the back - the middle if I was lucky... I felt like I could almost touch the band (well, Simon anyway!), and I swear he looked at me a number of times (then again, probably everyone round me thinks that too!).

I am officially in heaven! And I don't want to leave.....

I read today on DD.com that the last two dates of the tour are being filmed for a tv special and DVD... I can't wait. I have to see the tv special and get the DVD so I can relive the moment again and again....

1 day to go!!

I can't believe the gig is almost here..... to say that I'm excited would be a major understatement!! Although I'm still not sure who I'm going with, or how I'm getting there!

There's another new Interview online, this time with IC Birmingham. And unusually it's an interview with Roger!

Yet more reviews and media stuff

Found a review on the BBC Manchester site. Yet more good reviews and great fan comments.

There's also an article & interview with John Taylor at the Living Abroad Magazine web site.

Emailed my family to let them know that I'm off to see the guys play at Sheffield. I'm not too sure what the reaction will be.... probably a mix of 'Good for you - enjoy it' and 'How sad!' :-)

I've just checked out the new DD shop, and there's going to be too much to choose from when I get to the gig - I must get a tour programme, and probably 1 t-shirt. I might then order some more when I get back home..... dunno yet. And I still don't know who I'm going with!! Might be hubby, might be my landlord.....

Off for the weekend now - gotta get my head around my VB assignment! But there's now only 4 days to go..... I can't believe it's suddenly almost here!!! And the tour is almost over too... but then that means the new album should be out soon.... next month I hope!!!

Hello Magazine's Most Attractive Man of the Week/Month Vote

Not a magazine, or web site, I normally read but the site has John Taylor in the Monthly Vote and Simon Le Bon won last weeks vote and will be featured in the next Monthly Vote.

Of course I don't need to tell you that I voted for JT, and will most definately be voting for SLB in the next Monthly Vote (even though it looks like he's going to be up against Keifer "24" Sutherland)..... The monthly winners will go into a Most Attractive Man of the Year vote....

Unbelievable!!

I've been looking around ebay today, and I can't believe the prices people are willing to pay for tickets to see the DD play! There's a pair of tickets for Sheffield sold for about £130 (they were the £40 tickets) - ok, so all the seating is sold out, but you can still buy standing tickets..... and that's something else I can't believe - Sheffield's still not sold out!

Even worse pricewise was the fact that already people are selling pairs of Madonna tickets on ebay for £300!!! (admittedly the tickets originally sell from £75-£150 which I thought was outrageous!) I hope that never happens with DD, or this will end up being not only the first, but also the last time I ever see them!

This one's quite a bit older, but I've only just spotted it and if it's true it's great news!:

7 days to go...

Well, there's only 7 days to the concert, and I'm looking for someone to go with me as my other half can't go now..... trouble is, most of the people I know wouldn't be able to get time off work as they're lecturers! Still, I'll keep on asking til I find someone!!

I've been checking out the reviews and set lists on the DD.com site, and I don't think I've seen one bad review!! Set lists seem to be pretty much the same at all the gigs too.... and there's some great photos on the site now, and some great shots on Denis O'Regan's site.

Review of Belfast Gig

The DD site has the text of a review from the Belfast Telegraph of last night's show. It's a good review, and shows why DD are still going strong after 20+ years! I looked on the Belfast Telegraph site, but I still can't find it online, or any other reviews! I guess most of the papers will wait til London....

Belfast Show & Set List

The Set List from last night's show in Belfast is now on the DD.com site. Looks like a great list, but the guys appear to have a habit of changing things from show to show, so there's no telling if that's what it'll be at Sheffield! The only song missing that I'd like to see on the set is 'The Seventh Stranger'..... but there's so much to choose from, and I'll be more than happy with the list from last night!

There's a nice story on the BBC News site about a woman who, with her family, was rescued by Simon & Yasmin on Drum 17 years ago in the Atlantic. It was nice to see that Simon and Karen got to meet again, and great that she was DD's Guest of Honour at the show last night. It just makes me realise what a genuinely nice bunch the guys are!. Theres a piece in the Belfast Telegraph about Simon hoping Karen would be at the show as the band had all wanted to find out how she was doing all these years on, and of course there's a follow up piece about the lady herself.

No reviews of the gig online yet..... I'm keeping my eyes peeled!!

1st Night

The tour kicks off in Belfast TONIGHT. I've just seen photos from the rehearsals at Docklands and OMG it's going to be such a show!!! Check out the wonderful Denis O'Regan's photos. Photos like this and this are really making me impatient to see the show!! I must remember to check the papers tomorrow for the reviews of the show. I've added Denis' web site - please don't put his photos on your own web sites, he doesn't like it and has threatened to remove them all - as I love all his photos (not just the DD ones, although they are great!), and I've also linked Exposed Rock where you can buy some of his prints. I've got my eye on one, but it'll have to wait til I sort out my house first!

What a great end to the day! And I sorted my JavaScripts and have got loads of info for my VB assignment too. All in all a successful and happy day.

aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh

Thank god the day is almost over! It's been a mare.... firstly my JavaScripts aren't working properly and there seems to be no logical explanation for why, and secondly I can't get Visual Basic to run on my machine from the network where I work!!! Which means I can't get working on my 2nd VB assignment for my night classes! And as it's about 5:30pm in Easter Break there are no technicians around to have a look at it.... as Homer Simpson would say... D'oh!!

Still, at least I got my showcase website updated, and fixed some daft link problems on it. While working on it I discovered a news item about Roger Taylor - apparently he and his wife have split up, although they are not divorcing at the mo. It may be just a temporary separation, personally I hope it is, Roger always seemed so happy and was determined to keep his family as firmly out of the public eye as possible. I hope they sort things out and get back together.

On a better note, according to the DD web site "The band are currently in tour rehearsals in London. From all reports, the set, the sound and the songs are all fantastic!" Ooooo... I'm really looking forwards to this....

Wow... a decent freebie!

Got hold of a CD Single for free today, from a woman at work. It's not DD (I do like other bands!). It's 'The Ballad of Tom Jones' by Space with Cerys (from Catatonia). I remember first hearing it on the radio when I was rowing with hubby (then just my fiance), it made us stop and listen when we heard the 'I have never thrown my knickers at you. And I don't come from Wales' lines.... we laughed and I always think it's a pretty good song to sum up our marriage! My feelings are often like those Cerys sings.... ;-) Why are we still together?? Don't ask me!!

It probably made a welcome change for my colleague to not hear Duran Duran playing on my speakers!! But not for long..... although I'm trying to find some Scissor Sisters (for some reason I keep getting sidetracked into Evanescence)

3 Weeks to go....

Only 21 days now! Still haven't sorted out the planned embroidery on the jeans, I'll probably leave it now.... not sure I'll have enough time with everything else that's going on! I'm trying to get a mortgage, and I need a gurantee by the 15th April at the very latest or I'm going to lose the house I'm renting - which is why I've been rather stressed lately and not been blogging much lately, or working on my web sites and the scrapbook.... I'm fed up of companies that tell you they can get you the mortgage you're after then fail to deliver.....

Enough of the grumbling! I'm really looking forwards to the gig, and hubby's coming with me now too. He got his operation date through yesterday - and it's 2 days after the gig!! I've been phoning round about renting a car, and now I'm planning what money we have to put aside for the next couple of weeks.....

Roll on the 27th!!!

25 days to go....

Trying to find a decent size image of the logos/icons I want to embroider onto my jeans.... but in the search I've come across more of the works of Patrick Nagel (The artist who brought us the Rio cover). His work is fantastic, and he's such a sad loss to the art world. There are a number of his works which have echos of Rio in them, and now I'm trying to track down posters of his work - but that's easier said than done! His work reminds me of some of the Art Deco posters, but they also seem to sum up the 1980s to me! Wonderful works!!

Scrapbook online at last!

At long last, after much talking about it, I've finally put the first 6 pages of my DD scrapbook online! There's no site design at the mo, and it's on free Tripod space so there are ads, but at least the images are there!

Can't find Time Out magazine in Town - but as they said in WH Smiths, it's focused on London and there's not much call for it here! Looks like it's time to give some dosh to a friend to sort it out!

26 Days and Counting!

Officially less than a month to the concert now, and I'm getting really excited! Bought some Jeans and a new top yesterday to wear at the gig, the top's a nice lightweight, but funky top..... so I shouldn't get too hot in it!! The jeans are a nice indigo, but have the faded leg look - and they're hipsters too. I'm going to try to embroider a couple of DD motifs on the back pockets before the gig :-)

Off into town in a mo to see if I can pick up a copy of Time Out, otherwise I'll give a friend some money and get them to order it online. The poster has already sold out! Damn!

My mate I invited can't make it to the gig, as she's got college that night. Looks like my hubby might be coming with me after all, he's quite enthusiastic about it, despite not really being a fan!!

Didn't do much over the weekend, or the beginning of the week, as I was suffering with my arm and migraines again.

Backed up all my personal files on my work PC this morning.... My DD MP3s almost take a whole CD, and as for the scrapbook!! It's HUGE in photoshop format!!! I'm at work til late tonight (I take a Visual Basic Programming course on a Thursday night), so I'm going to start putting my scrapbook online.

Did some reading over the weekend, read 'The Year of Living Dangerously' by Christopher J. Koch. It's a brilliant novel! Try it! I watched the movie years ago (as I'm a big Mel Gibson fan!) and really enjoyed it, although I've not seen it for a while. I did feel that the book was better, and it seemed to feel different too. Must watch the movie again to see if I'm right!! :-) (Shame it only seems to be available in Region 1!). I enjoyed the book so much that I'm going to suggest it to Simon's Reader on the official DD website. I'm now reading Enigma by Robert Harris, which I've only just found out that the recent(ish) film was based on! So far I'm really enjoying it, and it's one I saw on Simon's Reader and thought 'oh yeah, I keep meaning to read that one....' Fatherland is another one I want to read.... but that'll have to wait for another time!
