New year... new start?
DVD Cover for InfernoWell, as you can probably tell, I've been really busy for the last couple of months. I'm working on a website for our commercial training provision. It's been quite fun, and interesting to work on, and I've finally created a CSS layout from scratch. It should be interesting to see it's development, as I'd planned to have video streaming etc built in - but I'm not sure if that will come about now. More on that later!

Gold Plated Dalek Cookie JarChristmas came and went. I spent loads, and gave my hubby some really special pressies. I got him a Ltd Edition Gold Plated Dalek Cookie Jar, - which he loves - the ELO greatest hits type CD that was released at the tail end of last year, some replacement videos, replacements for an album & a 12" picture disc he'd lost, and a couple of rather special DVD's. The DVD's were made by a chap in Germany, and I made and printed the covers myself. They're Doctor Who, and they're my two latest covers, The Daemons, and Inferno. He was puzzled at first, as he knew they weren't out yet, but realised what was going on when he saw my Barcode & name on the back! He was over the moon! Really pleased with it! As I'd bought him The Invasion on VHS, I also printed my DVD cover for it - ready for when I transfer it.

He bought me a Remote Control New Series Dalek, and the New Series DVD Boxset. I've not yet had a chance to watch much of it, and I probably won't get round to checking my Disc 2 for a while, as I have Battlestar Galactica Series 1 to catch up on... Series 2 is on now, and 24 season 5 starts soon! All of a sudden there's too much to watch on telly!

Talking of which - The Christmas Invasion was the highlight of my Christmas viewing. It was a fun romp, with a good mix of emotions, and finally a decent amount of screen-time for UNIT. Plus, the second mention of Torchwood, and our first proper tease about them! And now there's more Sci-fi on BBC1 - a new programme from Kudos (Spooks, Hustle) - Life on Mars. A promising start, it's sort of a Cop drama, but has the fish-out-of-water element, highlights the contrast between modern policing methods and the 70s methods, and has a running theme of the mystery of what's really happening - is Sam Tyler a time-traveller, and if so how did it happen? Is he in a coma and dreaming it all? Why does it seem that he's supposed to be there? It's brilliant with intelligent writing and excellent acting from all, and it's been added to my 'must-see-every-week' list!

Got a letter from work on the 4th. They're restructuring, and my department is being downsized - which is a hard task as there's only two of us at the moment! We both have to apply for the remaining post, but I'm disappointed with the way they're changing things, as the opinion is that as people have blogs, and their own web sites, they're capable of producing a site for work. But there's so much legislation, and so many standards, which most people don't know about, that I don't know if it will work. Anyway, I'm now looking for another job. I want to stay in the Web design field, which means I'm having to look for work further away from home. Or start my own business. I've applied for a couple of jobs, so we shall see what the future brings!

Had a bit of a surprise last night. Paul was at work, so Andy (our lodger) and I were doing some housework with music telly on. A track started, and I instantly recognised the beat. I knew straight away that it was a Duran Duran track, but sampled. Within a few moments I knew that someone had taken a sample from Serious and made it into a dance track. It turns out that it's a track called 'Fire' from Ferry Corsten! Looks like it's going to be a big hit! It's released on the 23rd on Positiva Records, and I'm buying it asap!
