********************************************************************************************************* MOST RECENT ENTRIES -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Monday, July 10, 2006 Oh my... where did the time go? So, it's been nearly six months since my last post? Wow! I just can't believe it! I've been stacked out all over really, and dealing with a few things. I guess the main things to report are that I've been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid, about 3 months ago. That probably explains why I always caught everything going, as it's an auto-immune disease. I'm having to try to remember to take all my tablets, which I'm not all that good at. But the blood tests are showing improvements. From the initial score at diagnosis I'd guess I've had this a long time! Anyway, I'm on the mend - I hope! I'm not working at the moment either. I wasn't made redundant in January though, my post terminated on the 16th of June. Since then I've bought myself a new PC for home, and got a fantastic deal. I've restarted making my own DVDs again now, and I currently have my own Christmas Invasion (which I finished a cover for a few months ago) and my own New Earth, which I just completed last night. Being my second Doctor Who one New Earth was a lot quicker to make. I'm really pleased, and can't wait to get on with the others! The new series of Doctor Who has been and gone, having finished on Saturday. We got Sky+ installed about 6 weeks ago, and it was great to actually get the entire episode, and the entire Confidential each week without any effort! I've had to transfer a whole stack of trailers and episodes off though, as we'd dropped to about 21% free! It's amazing how fast it goes! Anyway, I'm in two minds about this series. The running theme was much more subtle than anyone had guessed, although I do feel that my guess at the loneliness of the Doctor was part right - as in the end the whole series arc had been about the separation of the Doctor and Rose. And Rose is dead - well, in the Doctor's universe. But there was a nice twist that she's not really dead (although she probably feels dead inside having lost the Doctor), she's now living with the her family (made up of her Mum, her alt-earth Dad, and Mickey, plus one on the way - Jackie & Pete's). And a nice little intriguing set-up for this year's Christmas Special "The Runaway Bride". Overall this year there were some good stories, but there were some duffers too. Not too sure about the new Cybermen, I hope that they don't preclude the idea of having 'our' Cybermen at some point in the future, otherwise this would mean that they've completely rewritten Cyber-history. Still not entirely sure about the series finale either, being basically a Dalek v Cyberman war for the Earth. Naturally the Daleks kicked Cyber-butt. And I'm rather annoyed at myself for not guessing the truth about the Genesis Ark. Anyway, I probably need to rewatch the series, but I think my favourite stories this year are probably going to be 'Tooth and Claw' (not just for the gorgeous werewolf, and the lovely David Tennant's real accent), and 'The Idiot's Lantern'. I know that my least favourite is always going to be 'Love and Monsters'! I know it's going to sound terrible to say this, but it was a really poor vehicle for a pretty poor main monster. Hats off to the kid who came up with the idea, but it really wasn't - IMHO - good enough to be a main character. And as for the end... and the whole 'You upset my mum' bit :rolls eyes: That's one story which has made me glad to see the back of the Tyler clan. Rose was definately becoming annoying this year, and there was much more mushy soap stuff... although I did quietly squee when the Doctor nearly told Rose that he loves her, but ran out of time... and the tears streamed down his face. Anyway... For the first few episodes, and I'll be picking up on this now I've got my shiny new black box, I started making some avatars - which I've been using on OG - and some mobile phone wallpapers. The School Reunion ones are pretty basic, and I really need to work on some more, but I've definately found my style for this year's series. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the mobile pohone wallpapers - but that's not surprising, as I was working on a number of machines at the time. I'll have to see if I backed anything up onto CD. I got hold of 'Blackpool' and 'Casanova' within the first few weeks of the new series of Doctor Who, and I have to say that I was really taken with them both. Although 'Casanova' is my favourite. Shame about the DVD Cover, I find it rather boring as that particular image was used everywhere when the series was on TV. And I'm also not convinced that it really sits well with the menu on the Disc (which I personally love). So, inspired by the menu design, I created my own cover to complement it, and replace the issued cover. Paul keeps saying that I should do this sort of thing professionally, but how do you get your covers noticed by the right people? I've made some avatars and wallpapers for that show too, but I still need to upload them. I'm planning on popping some screenshots of my DVD menus for TCI & New Earth online soon, I'll link to them as soon as they're up. In the meantime, I think that's probably most of my news, and I have a things to do, so I'll sign off for now. posted by Unknown -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- // *END OF NEW ENTRIES* \\ |
