Another week, another weigh-in
Well, I didn't lose any weight over the last week, but I didn't put any on either. So it's not as bad as it could have been.
We managed to catch up on the last series of 24, watching the last 4 episodes back to back on Wednesday. I normally have things figured out really quickly while watching 24 - probably because I've seen every series. But this time, I was still a little stumped until a few minutes from the end. Quite a few twists and turns I hadn't spotted on the way, and what a set-up for series 6! It starts on Sunday! Can't wait to see where they go with this one.
Sky are really pushing the show - as ever - and have a special website (www.ctuagent.com). If you enter your details you get a log-in, and it looks like there's going to be some sort of mission online to follow. Should be fun!
What else? Oh yes, watched the third (or is it second really) episode of Battlestar Galactica this afternoon. It's shaping up to be an interesting, and thrilling, series.
I've also been catching up with some of the BBC 7/Big Finish Doctor Who audio stories tonight - while doing some work. I've finally listened to The Chimes of Midnight. That was an interesting story, very interesting. I did think that Charley might actually die in this story. Every time I listen to these I keep thinking that I must start getting the Big Finish audios. There are nearly 100 of them now!
I'm currently listening to part one of Blood of the Daleks. Which is another interesting one. Lucie just mentioned that the Doctor's a timelord, but I'm sure he's not told her that yet. And the Daleks have just appeared. Daleks saying they wish to help... creepy!
Yep, this is definately turning into a good story.
Anyway...
A few things I forgot to mention at the beginning of the year:
- The Runaway Bride - another year, another Doctor Who Christmas Special. Funny how even though this is only the second one, we all now talk as though the DW Christmas Special is a set in stone event. Unfortunately I found that Catherine Tate was rather annoying in this, and Sarah Parish was rather ott as the Empress of Rachnoss. Which is a shame, as she's been so good in other things I've seen her in. Catherine Tate was just shouty most of the time. I kept expecting her to say "Am I bovvered?". *shudders* The story could've been another great one, but it was just average in the end. I can't help wondering if that was partly because of it being the first story without Rose, I'm hoping that it's just because of the panto-style acting from some. We'll see when series three starts.
- Sarah Jane Adventures - the new year's day pilot/special (I wonder if we can call it a pilot, when we've already had a pilot for a Sarah Jane/ K-9 series all those years ago). This was great. Really good fun, with a good plot. OK, some of the kids characters were annoying, but that's kids these days ;) I think this one is going to be a great series. Shame about the work around for K-9's lack of appearance in the episode, but it was great. Lots of nice touches and hints about things that the Doctor and K-9 have provided Sarah with - loved the sonic lippy! She has a cool car too! And a nice touch with one of the aliens we see Sarah with, it's one of the aliens from Torchwood too. There was some discussion online about the alien, some seemed to think that it had wings added to it and wasn't the same one. Personally, I think it is the same alien species (no reason why not - ok, so the one in Torchwood wasn't nice, but it was a prisoner), and it definately looked the same to me.
- BBC Wales Doctor Who Concert for Children in Need - What a great concert! I'd listened to it on the BBC Wales listen again just after it had been aired, but to see it was fantastic! Some of the music really gets me all emotional. I've started to notice little hints of the DW music in TW too, most notably in the final ep. The soundtrack CD is out, and I still haven't got hold of it yet. Can't wait to though, it's going to be so great to have those tracks.
- There's a push on Outpost Gallifrey to use the new chart rules to try and get the song from The Runaway Bride into the charts... we'll have to see what happens. On a similar note, Chris Moyles is trying to get Billie's 'Honey to the Bee' back into the charts, and looking at the iTunes chart, I think it's going to work! It's going to be an odd year in the charts now. Downloads no longer need to have a released CD available to count towards the chart, which means that when a track is used on an ad it's likely to go back into the charts. Who knows, Wham! might even get the Christmas number 1 this year, being a seasonal favourite. We could be in for an interesting time!
I'm sure there was something else, but I can't think what! I'm being distracted by this Doctor Who story... just got to the end of the first episode, and it's very exciting. Silly humans, trusting the Daleks. You'd never catch me doing that! :) It's getting late now, time to pop off and feed the dogs, and hit the sack. TTFN
